I don’t think you’re supposed to take any antidepressants during pregnancy at all. You need to talk to your doctor. It could be very very dangerous.

You should not take anything at all. it could cause serious birth defects like brain damage for one and many others. talk to doctor before taking anything

  2. Mandy S says:

You need to discuss it with your doctor, but Zoloft is generally considered safe for use during pregnancy. I took it all the way through.

The benefits outweigh the risks in cases of severe depression. With depression, you generally don’t eat as well as you should, don’t sleep as well as you should, don’t otherwise care to take care of yourself like you should, etc. Most studies haven’t been able to provide evidence that the use of most antidepressants, including Zoloft, in pregnancy is a concern, but clearly the lack of personal care and hygeine in pregnancy is a problem.

As always, speak with your doctor, but according to mine, four years ago, and my sisters’ (two sisters, both with new babies) doctors, Zoloft is generally considered to be safe during pregnancy.

  3. MaryRose says:

Zoloft is a category C drug for pregnancy. Category C drugs should only be used if the potential risks are outweighed by the benefits to the mother. Although there aren’t well-controlled studies on pregnant women as to the risks to the baby of taking zoloft early in pregnancy, it is known that taking zoloft late in the third trimester could cause your baby some harm. That said, it is not really “safe” but in some situations, the benefits will outweigh the risks. Make sure you discuss this with your doctor and ask the doctor to explain all your risks and benefits so that YOU can make an informed decision about whether or not you want to take it. Don’t just let the doctor decide for you. It’s your body and your baby. You can go to this website and scroll far down to where it says “pregnancy” in bold and read about what the effects on the baby when zoloft is taken in the third trimester: http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/sertral_wcp.htm
