I’m currently 2 1/2 months pregnant with my first child and I had a really bad headache for over 4 days and decided to pray about and take some excedrin because nothing else was givng me relief and it was preventing me from working and from having an appetitie. I just want to check to see what are the risks, if any, of taking it. I did not take any large doses. I took 3 over 2 days.

Excedrin contains aspirin which is bad for you to take during pregnancy. It also contains caffeine. Aspirin increases the odds of miscarriage in the first trimester and can cause problems with bleeding (for the mom) in the third trimester. You should not take aspirin during your pregnancy unless directed to do so by your doctor. But if you took it the other day, and nothing bad has happened, don’t worry about it there is nothing you can do about it now. And taking aspirin won’t necessarily cause a miscarriage, it just increases your risk. So don’t take it any more. Go to the store and get some regular Tylenol.
You are not supposed to take aspirin while you are pregnant and you are not supposed to have caffeine. I would say that just this one time won’t hurt so much, but you should really not do it again. Headaches are quite normal in the first trimester as well as cramps and back ache. Talk to your doctor if it is too much. Tylenol is really the only pain reliever that you should take! You’re not supposed to take ANY medications while you’re pregnant without first consulting your doctor. Tylenol is considered safe, but nothing else for headaches that I know of. Sometimes when you’re pregnant, you just have to deal with not feeling well without medication because it’s safest for the baby. Don’t mess around. Talk to your doctor before taking anything you’re unsure about.
I have migraines that are so bad, they land my in bed for two to three days. When I was pregnant, I was told the only thing that I could take for them was Tylenol and only on occasion and ONLY after my first trimester. I don’t know what kind of side effects excederine can have, especially so early in the pregnancy. I wouldn’t do it again. Being a parent is a wonderful blessing, but it also requires a lot of self sacrifice, so start thinking of you baby that right now can’t defend itself. Talk to your doctor about what you can and can’t take, and then follow his guidelines.
