My husbands lupus and my pregnancy, any risks?
Question by punkrockmommy98: My husbands lupus and my pregnancy, any risks?
My husband and I just found out that he has Lupus. I am due in 2 months, are there any risks we should be worried about? We found out Friday and I can’t ask my doc until monday. He and I are both worried about this since we don’t know much about the disease itself yet. Any insight would be appreciated

There is a genetic marker they can now test for.
About 5% of people who develop lupus have a close relative (parent or sibling) with lupus. Lupus is not hereditary but a genetic predisposition to it may be. Researchers are still working on that.
Someone may be genetically predisposed to lupus and never develop it. Lupus needs a trigger. The researchers are not sure exactly how it is triggered, but likely culprits right now are sun, stress, certain viruses, certain medications, birth control pills and hormone replacement therapy.
You do not need to worry about your baby.
Lupus is not conatgious in any way.
I suggets you do some reading at the Lupus Foundation of America, at the link provided.
Most people with lupus, if they follow their treatment regimen and see their rheumatologists faithfully, can expect to live a normal life span. We lupus people do have increased risk of hardening of the arteries. Half of us will develop kidney disease (I have that).
Don’t panic. You and your husband must educate yourselves so that you can be proactive in managing the lupus.
Best wishes and congratulations on the new addition to your family!
