Cold Medicine during Pregnancy

**Phenylephrine** Class C (effects unknown during pregnancy) **Pheniramine** Class C **Acetaminophen** Class B The most dangerous time to take Class C medications is during the first trimester when baby’s organs are most susceptible to birth defects. I am 19 weeks pregnant and not over-using the medications and am taking them in small, limited quantity. When I said that the Phiramine was low risk I meant that there aren’t studies that conclusively prove that it causes birth defects in humans during pregnancy. The reason you’re not supposed to take Nyquil, Flu&Sore Throat, & other cold medicines is the DXM (dextromethorphan), and phenylephrine it contains. DXM is a cough suppressant and it helps loosen up mucus and stuff. They are listed as Class C during pregnancy because it’s effects are *unknown*. They want you to be better safe than sorry. So no — just because you have taken or take Nyquil etc during pregnancy DOES NOT mean your baby will be retarded or deformed. People suggesting this are severely misinformed. Doctors just want you to be careful with it! Healthy babies are awesome! Weight the risks before taking any Class C medication. Very helpful website: www.obfocus.com

@SofiaAlejandra9 I know! Sometimes it’s so ridiculous. I understand it’s for the baby’s health; but really? I don’t think taking Nyquil / Theraflu once will do any harm as long as it’s used properly. I got a good night’s sleep and my cold is now almost cmopletely gone!

  5. sboell002 says:

@matthewsmomma07 I asked them why they thought you couldn’t take a bath. Here was the reply: “Because the dead skin cells can come off and get in your vagina and make the baby sick”

  6. sboell002 says:

@laguayaca I loooove tea so much! I did a chamomile with peppermint and honey. Really helped with some of the chest congestion and sore throat!

This man is fantastic. These babies have the right to live, for they are already alive.
Nobody sets out to have quads or quints etc. They are guided by ivf specialists that they trust.
They then have a responsibility to these babies that are already alive to give them the best chance possible of a healthy life.
They obviously already love them, that is why they are prepared to fight so hard for them.
