Can you have a home birth with a high risk pregnancy?

Question by : Can you have a home birth with a high risk pregnancy?
I have a stitch in my cervix to carry the baby to term. After getting the stitch out at 37 weeks, I wait to go into labor and everything progresses as a normal pregnancy and birth. Is it possible to have a home birth even though my pregnancy is high risk? Thanks!

Answer by Victoria
Of course it’s possible, but it’s not recommended for the sake of you and your child, I ask you to reconsider. Any high risk pregnancy should monitored closely and carefully. But, talk to your doctor and see what they suggest.

I wish I could be more help.

Tori.

Most midwives will not accept your case if you are a high risk pregnancy.
Im all for home birth and hope to have one myself some day. I would never take the risk though if I was having an abnormal pregnancy.

hi andrea :) im considered high risk as i have a high bmi and having to take blood thinners twice a day. i am however having a home birth. this is my 5th baby and second home-birth. i guess by stitch you mean cerclage? if you are high risk due to an incompetent cervix then i would say that at 37 weeks there should be no more high risk of delivering pre trem. hospitals have always got to advise you against a home birth because it is their POLICY to do so. it does not mean to say you should take this as a point blank no. discuss with your midwife what your options are, it is suprisingly easy to get a homebirth these days. your midwife will arrange a home visit with another midwife to 1, assess the suitability of your home and 2, have you sign consent forms. then at 37 weeks you are delivered two home birthing boxes and then are able to relax and await the inevitable. good luck tto you x
