Ways to get protein into my pregnancy diet?!?

Question by ITS A BOY!! 3/12/09!: Ways to get protein into my pregnancy diet?!?

I am 15 weeks pregnant and I am trying to eat the most balanced diet i can, but there is one problem, I am not a vegetarian, but i do not really like to eat meat. It is just the texture and the taste of most meats i do not like to eat. What are other ways for me to get my recommended protein?

Best answer:

Answer by Brandon S
Peanut butter! It has tons of protein and there are many types with slightly different tastes and textures to choose from. Or go see a nutritionalist to make you a plan.
PS stay away from fish. Mercury bad for baby
Good luck

  1. boogie says:

i know beans is a good source also peanut butter

  2. Daisyhill says:

Beans….either baked ones or kidney beans and lentils also.

  3. CAGIRL says:

First of all, SOME fish is OK in moderation. You can have tuna once a week and some other fish. Talk to your doctor and see what they recommend.

  4. hypnotik61985 says:

Like the previous poster said, peanut butter. You can also eat any type of beans, but certain kinds of fish are ok to eat as long as it is in moderation and it is not raw. Good luck!

  5. john b says:

Beans…you can have bean and cheese tacos for breakfast lunch and dinner. They’re a good source of fiber too.

  6. Expecting #1! says:

I am not a vegetarian either, but the thought of meat has bothered me most of this pregnancy. I found that peanut butter and beans are good sources of protein. I think eggs and nuts are also a good source. Also, I have gotten the chicken that comes in a can and have made chicken salad sandwiches for lunch.

    Best of luck!

  7. Jimmy's Wife 爱中国 says:

Nuts and legumes (beans) are an excellent source of protein. Soy is also a good source…so perhaps a flavored soymilk will be to your liking. You can also get protein from beets, broccoli and spinach,so have some veggies and salads regularly.

  8. KKingS says:

Beans are by far, the best source of protein. I don’t eat meat either, and I’ve developed some really great and tasty recipes using all types of beans…very versatile ingredient. Bean soup…by far, my favorite!

Nuts are also good, some higher in fats, so you want to watch the intake.

Leafy greens and some other veggies will contain decent amounts of protein.

If you can handle fish, there are plenty that you can eat sparingly through out the pregnancy.

The one thing I do suggest you not do is start throwing soy (like tofu, etc.) into your diet right now. There is a lot of controversy out there about soy, particularly for people who have not been eating it regularly their whole life.

I had a great site I used to use that listed protein content for almost every food item imaginable…perhaps you could google to find something like that.

  9. Summer says:

    beans
    peanut butter
    chili
    eggs
    edamane
    turkey sandwich

I have been craving meat and protein since the beginning.
    best wishes to you

  10. I'm going to be a mommy! says:

I have been eating eggs for breakfast and PB&J for lunch. i am in the same boat as you, don’t like meat. If you still feel you aren’t getting enough there is nothing wrong with taking supplements. I take calcium and vitamin c along with my prenatals.

  11. marisca j says:

cheese, milk, yoghurt, eggs, nuts seeds tofu

  12. Katie S says:

i used to make smoothies with soy protein-yuck but it got my protien up

  13. CCD says:

15 weeks pregnant and on the same boat… my midwife says cheese omelets for breakfast (I hate eggs), nuts and beans, and chicken and turkey.

Mostly I just eat peanuts all day and peanut butter sandwiches and trail mix. I got lactose-free cheese sticks and soy yogurt I’ve been mostly keeping down. There’s a really fresh good deli near my house that makes a delicious turkey sandwich too so occasionally I stop there.

Try beans & rice as a side dish with lunch or dinner. Amy’s makes great all-natural frozen burritos that are delicious and have protein. Tuna and Alaskan salmon are fine to eat once a week each. Hummus and sesame tahini supposedly can be worked into meals as well but this baby does not like -alot- of things so my diet’s pretty limited. Hope that helped some!

  14. emailbrown says:

All kinds of beans have protein, bananas, peanuts and peanut butter. Hope this was helpful. Congrats on the new baby!!!
