Diet soda and pregnancy (Diet Coke)?
Question by Mama_MJ: Diet soda and pregnancy (Diet Coke)?
Any fellow diet coke addicts out there who are pregnant?? I’m “cut back” and drink only 2 cans a day, but I still worry its too much. There is just NO substitute I like. Literally diet coke and water are the only drinks I like. Its not the caffeine that bothers me, its the artificial sweetener. Does anyone else drink this much and do you worry? Has anyone had a baby and drank diet soda throughout their pregnancy??
Thanks for any info anyone has!

The aspartame is a really big “no no” in pregnancy. Instead, switch to the real Coke. You’ll most likely be fine, but honestly, you should just get away from it for your baby.
The real Coke will be better for both you, and baby.

With my first pregnancy, I will admit that I was a diet coke addict….Hi, my name’s Alisha…LOL. Anyway, my son turned out just fine and I drank it every single day
Now I will admit with this pregnancy I have given up soda completely, but just try to cut back as much as you can! Good luck!
I was a Diet Coke addict as well before getting pregnant!! At first I was concerned about the caffeine, so I asked my doctor about it. He told me that drinking 1 a day probably wouldn’t hurt, but he wouldn’t suggest more than that since there wasn’t enough research on the effect aspartame has on the fetus. I decided to give it up anyway and eventually switched to a Sprite each day. I also occasionally drink a glass of ice tea. However, I’ve had friends that drank Diet Coke throughout and their babies turned out just fine! Personal preference really. Good luck!
Apartame is dangerous.
However, do not switch to coke, it is made with highly processed corn syrup which causes obesity and diabetes.
Both diet and regular sodas are loaded with caffeine, which you are supposed to stay away from if pregnant.
You should be drinking lots of water, fruit juice and milk. Not soda.
If you MUST have soda, check out the organic selection at Whole Foods.
Hello, fellow addict here! During my first pregnancy I switched to regular Coke and tried to limit it to 1 a day or less. During my second, I just kept on with my diet habit and tried to keep it under 1 a day. Neither of my children suffered any ill effects.
I had a friend who was the biggest addict I had ever seen with Diet Coke. She could bring a 12-pack to work and have it gone before she went home for the day! In her case, her doctor told her to try to cut back but not worry about it if she couldn’t because it would be such a shock to her system. Her two kids were both perfectly fine, also.
