When did you start wearing your “regular” clothes after pregnancy?

Question by Mom of E and S and 38 weeks with # 3: When did you start wearing your “regular” clothes after pregnancy?
I just saw a post about someone already wearing their regular clothes at 10 days postpartum! WHAT THE HECK? Maybe I’m just weird, but I couldn’t fit in my regular jeans for about a month, maybe a bit more. I couldn’t wear my regular shirts at all(boobs got huge and I was nursing)…

When did you return to your regular clothes? Just curious!
Leah: It’s completly RUDE to brag about how much weight you’ve lost to a PREGNANT woman! ;p

Answer by Leah~Ari’s Mommy 10/23/09~
Gosh, it took me at least 3 months if not longer. My weight loss was weird…very rapid immediately post partum, then it slowed down when I only had 10-15 lbs to go then when Ari was about 7 months it all melted away completely and I’m now 1 jean size smaller than I was pre-pregnancy.

I was in my normal clothes the next day, I think it just depends on the person really, I didn’t actually go into maternity clothes until I was about 7 months gone, and my son went term and was born 8lb4

  2. Housewife says:

I didn’t actually get back into my pre-pregnacy clothes after I had my daughter :-/
I’m going to work on it after I have this baby.

  3. Love my Mally Cakes says:

At 6 weeks post partum I could finally get my jeans over my thighs, but still had a muffin top! LOL

Finally at 12 weeks I was back down to my pre-preggo weight and wearing my old cloths again!!

  4. frogma - lactating amphibian says:

I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight at 5 weeks…

  5. *Holly* says:

I wore my maternity jeans for almost a whole year. They just had the little elastic waist and they were comfortable and no other jeans fit as good as they did. I still wear some maternity pants to work but they look nice and you would NEVER know they are maternity. They just have elastic in the back. They are a little big, but I have lost weight, too. But, I wore my regular t-shirts when I came home, but I am STILL not in my pre-pregnancy clothes. I am just shaped differently now. Shirts, yes, pants, nope. I had to buy a different size and am just now fitting into my pre-pregnancy size. But am 10 pounds lighter than I was before I got pregnant.

  6. sxe_mo06 says:

Took me 2 weeks to get into jeans that weren’t maternity pants, and my old shirts. Never quite managed to get back into my regular jeans but my hips are much wider now than they were before. I’m now 28 weeks pregnant, and I can still wear my pre pregnancy jeans, just have to wear them under my belly =).

  7. Alyssa's Mommy says:

I gained 41 pounds with Alyssa. At 6 weeks PP I had lost 30 pounds of the 41, still couldn’t wear my regular jeans. My pre pregnancy weight was 152 and I’m 5’7, and now 8 months later, I am down to 145? Strange but great! The other thing is, even though my weight is gone, my body is sooooo different now! So, it took me a good 2 months to get back into my jeans, but as for tops, I was back in them pretty much right after having her. (It was January so I got away with wearing sweatshirts and long sleeved t-shirts for a while).
I do remember going to a hockey game when she was about 4 weeks old. (Gift from my sister)
My sis and I went to a bunch of different stores looking for a pair of new jeans for me to wear to the game. After having to try on jeans that were 2 or 3 sizes bigger than what I normally wear, I held back tears and went to the game in my old maternity jeans! I was really depressed about it for a while, but I got over it pretty quickly!
I have learned to love my new body. I have come to the realization that I will never be a Victoria Secret model (as much as I would like to be, lol) but that my body looks this way now because I gave someone life:)

  8. Kass says:

I was wearing mine about 4 weeks after I had my son. I hadn’t really tried them on before I was just wearing lounge type pants and oversized shirts because it was what was most comfortable at the time. I tried them on about 4 weeks after for a date night and they fit…some were even huge on me. Now I am almost 10 months PP and had to buy a completely new wardrobe because all my clothes are to big from before pregnancy.

  9. CD says:

I guess it all depends of your body type and the clothes that you have, I was able to wear regular cloths 1 week after but less then 2 months after my daughter was born I was smaller then my pre-pregnancy size and all my pants where too big, I am not bragging, breastfeeding and taking care of my daughter did the trick. I did not change my diet, I am actually eating more and I still eat fast food at least once a week. Do not worry about your weight gain and just enjoy your baby, make sure to have some yoga pants to weir when you come home, you will need to be comfortable. I asked my husband to go buy me some yoga pants the next day I came home from the hospital :-)

  10. AdamsMom Erin~Leah Coming Soon says:

It took me about 9 months to get back into regular clothes. After about 4 weeks I bought some “transitional” clothes, that were about a size bigger than usual, but getting back into prepregnancy stuff just took a while and I didn’t want to be in sweats and yoga pants forever, plus I needed stuff for work.

  11. Mommy to Colton says:

I’m not bragging or anything, so don’t take it that way, but I wore my regular clothes when I went into labor. I just didn’t really get big. I did gain like 30 pounds but it was all in my stomach area, but even then I looked less than 4 months pregnant when I was full term. I wear low-rise jeans, so I am assuming that’s why they still fit up until birth. But yea, I left wearing my regular clothes, so I guess I got lucky.

  12. 34weeks with Elijah Clark <3 says:

:O 10 days lucky! with my oldest daughter i was 17 and the weight did fly off and actually i was back in normally clothes within 3 weeks,

With the twins, i still wore my maternity clothes for about 2months after the birth, and i remember still being a stone over my pre-pregnancy weight at christmas (almost 4months later) and i couldn’t find anything to wear my normal size, i was back to my normal jeans that Feb, but my boobs were massive, no tops/dresses fitted for a while as i breastfed the girls until almost 6months!

I’m due with number 4 in November, which means i have no hope of slimming down before christmas…again ;(

  13. Remember to Breathe says:

I could wear my t-shirts immedietly, but couldn’t because they weren’t convenient for breastfeeding. My maternity jeans were loose when I left hospital, so I bought lots of new pants and pjs to wear around the house. My son is 10 weeks old and I’m back to my pre-pregnancy size. I didn’t gain alot of weight or have stretch marks, people say they can’t even tell that I’ve had a baby. *Shrug* Everyone is different. I’m probably a few kg heavier but my size is still the same.

  14. strawberry says:

I think it was about 4 weeks for me. I had a c-section though so it was more a pain/puffy issue.
*However* they were not really my regular clothing. At the beginning of my pregnancy I bought some bigger sized jeans (goodwill, was NOT paying full price) cause I was not yet showing but man was I bloated all the time! I was a size 9 before getting pregnant, moved from size 11/13 jeans for the bloat then to maternity cloths.
I still do not fit in my size 9′s, not sure I ever will again without serious work outs (like I have time) so I am hovering in between 11 and 13 which I am ok with, for now.
My son is 9.5 months by the way…

    Good luck to you.

  15. Lee says:

it took me 3 months, yet it took my friend only uhm 3 days lol
    i was severely jealous

  16. Cadence Jade's Mommy says:

My daughter is 11 months and I still can’t wear my pre-pregnancy clothes. My boobs got much bigger so my tops don’t fit and my normal jeans are too low rise that I get a muffin top if I put them on. Oh well..its not about me anymore. Its about my little girl so I really don’t care.

  17. The triplets are almost 2! says:

I’m currently 4 weeks postpartum and am still not back into my regular jeans yet. I did initially have a lot of weight that just dropped off within a few days of his birth, but now I’m just kind of stuck with a good 15+ pounds that need to be lost.

  18. K says:

Right away, but just the looser fitting ones. It took me 1 to 2 months or so to fit into my jeans again because my hips had spread so much.
And the shoe size? Don’t even get me started on that.
    Good Luck!
