How many weeks pregnant when regular clothes did not fit?

Question by Sarah C: How many weeks pregnant when regular clothes did not fit?
I am 17 weeks pregnant, and still comfortably fit into my regular clothes, yet I hear people say that they bought maternity clothes even earlier. I don’t even feel pregnant- not much for symptoms, no “showing”, etc. Not that I mind- at least I can wait to buy the clothes (which eventually will need to be bought), but it seems odd to me.
Also- how long after birth did you fit into regular pre-pregnancy clothes again?

You’re normal. There’s a difference between baby weight gain and being pregnant so giving up the diet weight gain. I was 6 month along before I wore maternity clothes with all my pregnancies. After the baby was born it was 3-4 weeks before my regular clothes started to fit again. Have a few track suits with elastic waistbands around for this time.

I am 23 weeks with baby #1 and I have not bought bigger clothes yet. I’ve only gained 7 pounds so far.

Don’t listen to everyone else – that will only fill you with doubt and confusion. If you are truly concerned – call your doctor up.

Every womans body is different – just trust yours and as long as you feel fine and the doctor says the baby is growing as it should – enjoy not being in maternity clothes!

  2. Etta22 says:

Everyone is different. This is my second pregnancy and I am still wearing my regular jeans at 39 weeks. I’m due Jan 2nd. With my 1st pregnancy I was able to wear my clothes up until the 7th month. It varies with every pregnancy. Also, some women tend to lose and not gain weight while pregnant.

Everyone and every pregnancy is different. With my first pregnancy I was about 3-4 months or so before I had to start buying maternity clothes. With this pregnancy it was much sooner.

I’m 19 weeks with my first and I’m still fitting into my clothes that were on the bigger side in the first place (shirts are fine, pants are the issue). I’ve tried some maternity clothes since I’m running out of pants that fit comfortably, but they are still just on the big side.

i wore mine up until i think 5 or six months. then it got to wear i couldnt button them anymore, so i walked around with my pants undone lol…

Every woman and every pregnancy is different. With my oldest, I lost so much weight that I never needed maternity clothes, with my second, I wore them at about 5 months, with #3 at about 4 months, and with this current baby, I am only 10.5 weeks and none of my regular clothes have fit for a couple of weeks! How long afterward before you will fit into your pre pregnancy clothes depends on how much you gain, how much you exercise, etc as little as immediately (like with my first) or as long as 6 weeks (or longer) for some.

  7. Melissa G says:

i had to start wearing maternity pants around 4 months. i’ve only put on 15 pounds but i have had a belly the whole time. one of my friends is still able to wear her regular pants, although they are much tighter on her. everything that i bought maternity, i bought on clearance or on sale so i didn’t spend too much.

I am on my 4th pregnancy and with each pregnancy I showed differently. My 1st not so soon. My 2nd I was able to wear regular clothes but with an elastic waist into 6 months then I got huge – he was 9 pounds. My 3rd I was small the whole time. MY 4th right now is a very big baby and basically at 5 months he got huge and I’d been in maternity clothes since the 1st trimester, but that was my 4th.

As far as ftting into your clothes after a baby is born, it all depends on how much your body changes. If you gain the recommended weight and its your first you snap right back but for me on my 4th being 4’11 with large babies only plastic surgery can return my body back to it was. So even though I go back to my weight my body has widened and I have lots of extra loose skin form these babies so I will never be a size 2 again.

i’m 8mths the only thing i bought early on were maternity pants because my regular ones did start bothering me i was about 4-5mths. other then that i was able to use regular shirts and sweaters up till mid 6mths so you are doing good!

With my first one, my clothes did not fit at seven weeks. Postpartum I could not wear my regular blouses and dresses until after I weaned the baby.
