We started the day we found out we were having a girl….couldn’t wait any longer! LOL
The minute you find out the sex of the baby!
i started after i found out the sex around 20 weeks but if you’re having a baby shower you could wait until after that to do the bulk of your shopping,so you don’t buy a lot of doubles. but if you shop early keep the season of you’re baby’s arrival in mind(no summer outfits for a winter early spring baby).
keep all your receipts and keep the tags on as much as you can so you can return it if your baby doesn’t get to wear it
I started as soon as I was out of my 1st trimester. I just bought neutral colors & then of course when I found out what he was I went nuts. My little dude has the biggest wardrobe in town!
*I got a couple gender nuetral items given to me from my husband for my birthday when we were 14 weeks along
*Then we bought a gender nuetral baby stroller and car seat when we were 4 months along
*We found out the sex at 5 months
*Then we planned out the nursery-
bought the crib, rocking horse, rocking chair, shelves, pictures for walls, decorative stuffed animals, etc.. at 6 months
*Had our baby shower at 7 months, got ALOT of clothes, blankets, etc… from the baby shower
*went out right after the baby shower and bought anything else neccessary for the nursery (changing mat, lamp, etc..)
*spent the last two months of our pregnancy leisurely buying fun baby toys and clothes (we were able to focus on fun stuff and relax right before the baby came since we finished the nursery early)
later on like last few months, for several reasons.
1. Gender what if the ultra sound was wrong? you want to be in the return / exchange window. My friends son had an awful lot of pink frilly stuff in his wardrobe when he was born.
2. Gifts, never know what people are going to give you, I was handed down a lot of basics too. A lot of stuff that size is outgrown before use so a lot I was “handed down” were still new or like new.
3. Size, usually gift givers load you up on tiny newborn stuff, but you wont use those long if at all. My son was 9lbs at birth, and very long. A lot of the newborn gifts were up to 7.5 lb, didn’t fit him at all. I did buy a special going home outfit that fortunately fit.
If you wait until you know about how big the baby will be you will know more what to get so you don’t get stuck falling in love with special outfits only to not be able to use them. Unless you have a very tiny baby newborn clothes don’t last long either, if you are going to buy early get more 3/6m because they will be in it fast, my son was in a lot of 3m and 6m stuff immediately.
