- Pregnancy and Depression Pregnancy and Depression Anyone undergoing depression will tell you it is never something we should look forward to. It is a feeling of dullness and isolation; it makes one feel so alone in the world. Additionally, it also makes you less productive; you will not be able to function well. It will lead you to a sense of incompleteness, and it will ultimately make you very unhappy....

There is more than drugs to the story as well. Rusty the NASA engineer had them all living in a bus as well as getting her involved with this psycho religious nut and isolating her before he finally decided they might need to live in an actual house. I understand he was also controlling with money. “We decided…” NOT. HE decided what was to be for everyone.
Andrea didn’t “just” have post partum depression. She had post partum depression WITH psychosis! She was put on these medicines because she was catonic – not simply “depleted”. I am all for “sacred space” and male support but there comes a time when medicines are needed and helpful. One of the biggest faults lies in Andrea’s lack of mental health “care”. She was in and out of psych wards, different doctors, with incomplete info to provide proper care. Doctors should take park of the blame.
@mars8044 the majority of mothers are not without their male counterparts sorry
I really like your thought processes and the way you talk. So many Psychology PHD people just sound pompous and preachy like they know best and they use labels to stereotype and judge. Your intelligent thoughtful analysis is so refreshing.
HOLY MINDF***, that is a lot of powerful mind altering meds. I think he is right about the cause of the killings.
Your argument is very true in terms of nurtering, nutrition and pregnancy.Where I find an idealic conservative view of your part is with male and female role. We don’t live anymore in a society of hunters/gathers. Man and women have the same social roles. If the cure forn p p depression is as simple as you argue and since a great majority of women are single mothers maybe is time to creat a solution that emcompasses all.
I think that Andrea Yates needed to receive more psychiatric care before she was allowed to go back to her children. Some of the drugs like Haldol have side affects that could eventually make you see or hear things that are not there. God bless those children. The doctors should have made Andrea undergo more treatment before she was to go back to care for her children.
Educate yourselves.CCHR.ORG. He is talking about nutritional depeletion. It is a real issue that can be measured by a blood test. There is no test for mental illness only checklists made up by the drug industry and psyciatrist to get as many people addicted to drugs as possible. After we have babies our bodies are depleted and stressed. We need good nutrition not psycotropic drugs.
I LOVE THIS MANS WAYS
@oleHABSole I believe it is an act of deep depression for a mother to kill her children.I’d hope that as a person suffering w depression yourself,u’d have more understanding&sympathy towards people in similar situation.Postpartum depression&psychosis are very severe conditiotions that should b taken seriously and people should be educated more about them.My concern is that due to videos like this(or your comments)it might b even harder for women to seek help.I wish u all the best&speedy recovery
@Jennyfer728 stfu you stupid closed minded sheep! you think a mother killes her baby!!!!! because of depression?????????? I’m in the biggest depression you can think of mother fucker!!!! you’d commit suicide if you were in my shoes………!!!!! so fuck you and die in your sleep, today!!!!!!!!!
@oleHABSole You are a very sad and ignorant person
Like most people, I feel I must weigh in and say: bullshit.
This video is bullshit. The nutcase talking on it is full of bullshit.
Mental health issues require qualified medical care.
I had postpartum depression, I was scared all the time,I was scared of the street, the ppl, the phone calls… I was overweight for 18ks …I was crying the whole nights..for months… but I always Always loved my baby… she was my light in all that darkness …I was 18.
I took medicines and I get better…It was very sad…but you should be able to ask for help… when you have kids…you HAVE to ask for help…you have a responsibility beyond your own life…
postpartum depression and all that other bullshit my ass!! they are sociopaths/psychopaths and eventually give in to their urges. Wake the fuck up people.
Dont waste your time viewing this video. I don’t even believe the guy is a REAL psychologist. Over 1/2 of what he said was WRONG and MISINFORMATION. He did not even get the facts of the case correct for Christ’s sake. This guy is so full of BS.
I love the way this bloke contradicts himself. He disputes the validity of postpartum depression to begin with, and then later uses the concept himself. He also does the same thing when he talks about the woman being ‘depleted’ – assumedly he means by neurochemicals, but yet in other videos he disputes the whole bio-chemical model of mental illness.
Why is there so much hate on Youtube? Mothers should stick together and help each other out, not bring each other down!
About PPD/PPA/PPP, sometimes you just can’t make it without meds, it’s just how it is. You get horribly ill, and support at that time just isn’t enough. Whatever you feel you have to do, is o.k. I’d never imagined getting as ill as I got, and I’ll never judge anyone for doing anything again! We do the best we can, that being said, doctors need more insight into this.
I felt like killing people when I was on Effexor. That is why I stopped taking Effexor. That stuff is good for a little while, but then it just made me want to knife people. Results may vary
I hate hearing peole talk about things they don’t know!!! Especially that… if a new mother is going through that and hears somebody like you, she might feel bad about getting help… because when you are in that state, you feel guilty about everything and she might feel guilty about taking medication…
When it happens, when you are in it, you have no strenght at all to fight this. You can not be rational, you do not live in reality anymore. Everything is soooo overwhelming… I had the thoughts of sufffocating my daughter after she was born. Luckyly I cried for help before I did anything and was hospitalized. I started medication which allowed me to get out of the fog. My daughter is 12 today and I have an 8 year old son…
The “expert” in the video obviously never gave birth and never went through that. When you have the “blues”, having a great surrounding, help and love might be sufficient, but for something more severe, I couldn’t care less about that… you don’t get anything.
@KilLing You make so many subjective comments that I wonder if you are not in psychosis already. Go and mow the grass or something. If one shoe fits all then you need to wear yours too.
@KelzLindz My kids are college educated and fully grown. You have just begun and your are not sophisticated your spoiled.
@KelzLindz You said that your husband had to take the same responsibility as you. YOU SAD THAT ! If you listen to the video agian you will see that he blaims the entire problem on a hug. Exuse me but if you need your husband that bad then do put a dress and apron on him too so that he looks the part. Weirdo….I feel sorry for your husband.
