Q&A: What is considered a high risk pregnancy?

Question by *Mommy 2 Be* 12/15: What is considered a high risk pregnancy?
I’m just curious as to what is considered high risk pregnancy? I am on blood pressure medications and Ive had 2 UTI infections, and I’ve had bleeding and passed a piece of the placenta. I’m just wondering what else do they consider a high risk pregnancy??

Best answer:

Answer by SugarCain *LA*
High blood pressure, because that keeps nutrients from going to the baby and can damage the woman’s liver.
Other issues such as weight, age, preclampsia, etc. Many things could fall into the high risk category. Just make sure you keep communication flowing with your doc and they’ll take care of you
And rest and take care of yourself and that baby :)

I don’t think you’re supposed to take any antidepressants during pregnancy at all. You need to talk to your doctor. It could be very very dangerous.

How much weight should I lose for a safe no-risk pregnancy?

Question by bsmc19888: How much weight should I lose for a safe no-risk pregnancy?
So I am 5’6″ and 20 years old. I weigh about 245 pounds and have actually lost about 15 pounds this last month. I want to get pregnant but I don’t want to have a high-risk pregnancy because of my weight. I also have PCOS which puts me on a higher risk for diabetes and a high-risk pregnancy. The last thing I want to do is put a baby at risk.
So how much weight should I lose before I should start trying to get pregnant?

Antiphospholipid syndrome. If treated with blood thinners what is the pregnancy risk THEN?

Question by ǺМ إ Ґнε Šåщę ĠıŗĻ ♫: Antiphospholipid syndrome. If treated with blood thinners what is the pregnancy risk THEN?
I’ve read tons of information about it and I know it increases risks for the baby and the mother but what happens if you’re on the heparin and the lovenox (LOvenox)? Any statistics? I didn’t have these questions yesterday when I was diagnosed and I don’t know when I’ll see my doctor again so I thought I’d ask for someone’s personal experience with ASP and blood thinners. Thanks.

Best answer:

Answer by living4god3884
Women can be on blood thinners while pregnant. You just have to be very careful about bruising and falling, and etc. Also, on the specifics, I’m afraid you’ll have to talk to your doc because I don’t know your history. I work in a pharmacy as a pharmacy tech and I’ve seen pregnant women on heparin and lovenox.

Can you have a home birth with a high risk pregnancy?

Question by : Can you have a home birth with a high risk pregnancy?
I have a stitch in my cervix to carry the baby to term. After getting the stitch out at 37 weeks, I wait to go into labor and everything progresses as a normal pregnancy and birth. Is it possible to have a home birth even though my pregnancy is high risk? Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by Victoria
Of course it’s possible, but it’s not recommended for the sake of you and your child, I ask you to reconsider. Any high risk pregnancy should monitored closely and carefully. But, talk to your doctor and see what they suggest.

I wish I could be more help.

Tori.

Q&A: If a woman drinks heavily in the first few weeks of pregnancy, what are the risks for the baby?

Question by Answer Queen: If a woman drinks heavily in the first few weeks of pregnancy, what are the risks for the baby?
I has science homework that hurts my brain :)

Best answer:

Answer by Ivis Garcia
heavily.. hmmm as in a bottle or 3 a day?? Drinking alcohol during pregnancy can cause a wide range of physical and mental birth defects. The term “fetal alcohol spectrum disorders” (FASDs) is used to describe the many problems associated with exposure to alcohol before birth. Each year in the United States, up to 40,000 babies are born with FASDs

If I touch my penis and then finger my girlfriend, can this cause a pregnancy risk?

Question by yemen: If I touch my penis and then finger my girlfriend, can this cause a pregnancy risk?
If I touch my penis earlier in the day, but can’t see any obviously wet semen on it – due to not masturbating – and then finger my girlfriend later in the day, there’s no pregnancy risk from that is there? I just get paranoid over stupid things.

What are the physical risks of teen pregnancy?

Question by Skiddle: What are the physical risks of teen pregnancy?

Best answer:

Answer by MommyToBe
Well depending on how young the teen is, I would think it would be harder on their bodies as opposed to a woman in her 20′s or 30s because if she is young enough, her body is not even fully matured.

As for specifics, I can’t answer that.

Maybe a silly question… I know during pregnancy you’re supposed to avoid standing for long periods of time… but why exactly? I ask because at work I have to stand for 7-8 hours per day and only get to sit down whilst on a break.

what are the risks for 1st time pregnancy to a woman 42-43 yrs. old?

Question by pi_sappho: what are the risks for 1st time pregnancy to a woman 42-43 yrs. old?
what are the health risks a baby could possibly have if born by a woman 42-43 yrs old? what are the medical help available to a 41 yrs old overweight woman trying to have a baby for the 1st time?

Best answer:

Answer by Carole
Your fertility drops precipitously between the ages of 40-45. Extreme overweight may affect your fertility as well. Here is a good chart:

http://www.babycenter.com/refcap/preconception/fertilityproblems/6155.html

You may need to seek the help of a fertility specialist. Start with your OB and ask for a specialist referral if necessary.

Risks for a woman of advanced maternal age (I hate that term, but it’s medically correct) are increased risk of miscarriage and increased likelihood of Down syndrome and other birth defects.

Here’s a good list of resources:

Antiphospholipid syndrome. If treated with blood thinners what is the pregnancy risk THEN?

Best answer:

Answer by Starsfan14
I think I understand your question better now. After my first pregnancy I was put on coumadin for a while and then later baby aspirin. And after this past pregnancy I stayed on the Lovenox instead of the coumadin for 6 weeks. I had the choice of the coumandin or the Lovenox, but I chose the Lovenox simply because I didn’t have to go for blood test every week or so with it. And now I am on baby aspirin again. And as long as I don’t get another clot then I don’t have to go back to stronger blood thinners.

And from the little research I did online ASP is related to Lupus and other autoimmune disorders if I am understanding correctly. My uncle has had Lupus for over thirty years now. And he is doing fine. He has had some really scary moments with it, but he is in his 70′s and doing pretty well. My mother has RA and she has been on predinsone for almost 20 years. And she is doing very well considering the severity of her RA,

I am still not sure if this is what you are asking- but I thought I would give it a shot.

What are the risks for an embryo if an alcoholic beverage is in the body during a very early pregnancy?

Dose alcohol harm the embryo even if you’re a couple of weeks pregnant, not even close to being a month?

Best answer:

Answer by chck4play
The alcohol in your system at the time should not be a problem. The problems will come only if you continue to drink during the pregnancy.
